Adjoa Consultancy - Exploring diversity through History and the Arts
Dorset's Hidden Histories exhibition and book

Louisa Adjoa Parker along with Development Education in Dorset developed the Black History in Dorset project in 2007. A book and exhibition exploring the history of African and Caribbean people in Dorset over the past few hundred years was produced. The research explores black people's presence in Dorset and links with Dorset people and the African slave trade. A number pf black people were brought or came to Dorset in the 17th and 18th centuries as servants, and as well as this there would have been a range of people visiting or settling in the area, such as sailors, soldiers, visiting royalty and writers amongst many more. During the Second World War many African American GIs came to Dorset and left babies behind.

The book and exhibition also explore testimionials of black and minority ethnic people living in Dorset today. The exhibition includes a workshop with Louisa.
